Stephen Alangbo – Group Managing Director, Cornerstone Insurance Plc

Stephen Alangbo, the Group Managing Director of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, is a distinguished figure in the insurance sector with over 32 years of experience. His career reflects a remarkable journey of leadership and expertise. Under his leadership, Cornerstone Insurance Plc won the award of African Insurance Company of the Year at the 2024 African Insurance Organization Conference held in Windhoek, Namibia. He was also named among the Top 25 CEOs in Nigeria by BusinessDay in September 2024.

Stephen’s leadership career includes serving as Managing Director/CEO of ARM Life Plc in 2016, Capex Life Assurance Co. Ltd, Nairobi in 2011, and Capital Express Assurance Ltd, Monrovia in 2013. He has earned recognition as a Life Insurance Specialist and was a nominee for the African Insurance Award in the CEO Category in both 2020 and 2024. His achievements include leading ARM Life Plc to be recognized by the London Stock Exchange as one of The Companies to Inspire Africa in 2019 for its high standards of corporate governance.

Stephen began his career in 1992 at Clarkson Edu and Partners, a firm of insurance brokers, pension, and actuarial consultants. Over the years, he has worked with several insurance companies, holding key leadership positions such as Chairman of the Life Offices Committee (LOC) of the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) and serving as a Council Member of NIA. He has also represented the industry as a facilitator at the African Insurance Organization (AIO), sharing expertise on Life Assurance across West Africa.

His outstanding performance has earned him numerous awards and accolades, cementing his reputation as an industry luminary.

Stephen’s academic foundation includes YEWA High School, Agege, where he was recognized as the Best Mathematics Student and served as Assistant Laboratory Prefect in 1985/86. He holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics with Statistics from the University of Lagos and an MBA from ESUT Business School, Enugu. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FCIIN).
