1) Sapo National Park

Sapo National Park is Liberia’s largest and best-known protected area, located in Sinoe County in the country’s southeast. It preserves one of West Africa’s most intact blocks of Upper Guinean rainforest, making it a critical refuge for biodiversity and a cornerstone of Liberia’s conservation efforts.

It holds deep cultural and historical importance as the first settlement area of freed African Americans—known as Americo-Liberians—who arrived under the sponsorship of the American Colonization Society in the early 19th century. The island is regarded as the birthplace of modern Liberia and a national heritage site.
